Vikings travel to Goldfields for Statewide Twenty-20
Wed, 11 Nov 2009THE Sorrento Duncraig Vikings put up a strong fight in Kalgoorlie recently, against the Eastern Goldfields Cricket Association in the WACA run Statewide Twenty20 competition.
The Eastern Goldfields Cricket Association won the toss and elected to bat first against the reigning North Suburban Community Cricket Association premiers.
The EGCA made a flying start losing their first wicket at 88 with only nine overs bowled.
At one stage the Vikings looked like chasing a score of over 200.
However, they clawed their way back into the game, taking steady wickets to help restrict the EGCA to 9-190 off their 20 overs.
On a very quick and hard outfield, left-armer Rick Tyson bowled extremely well to take 3-33, while Hickey (2-35) and Adam Cooper 3-31 provided valuable support.
Unfortunately the Vikings were never quite in the hunt during the run chase, losing early wickets to finish 8-102 after their 20 overs.
Captain Jamie Sajich remained undefeated on 48 not out with other top scorers being Hayden French 15, and Harding 14.
The Goldfields showed off their traditional country hospitality to the Sorrento players after the game before the away side flew back to Perth.
EGCA 9-190 (Tyson 3-33, Hickey 2-35, Cooper 3-31) def Sorrento Duncraig CC 8-102 (Ja Sajich 48no, French 15, Harding 14)
