Support needed for Sorrento Duncraig club rooms
Tue, 14 Jul 2009Sorrento Duncraig Cricket Club is urging all members of the North Suburban Community Cricket Association, to attend an urgent meeting this Monday night regarding the proposal to build new club-rooms at Seacrest Park.
The ”Special Electors” meeting will be held at 6pm at the Craigie Leisure Centre.
SDCC president Darryn Smith said the meeting provided an opportunity for all NSCCA members to have their say.
“Your attendance at this meeting is a must,” he said.
“If we cannot display to council that there are a great number of people in favour of this development, then it will not proceed.
“Whilst only residents and ratepayers of the City of Joondalup are entitled to vote, we believe a strong attendance by all members of all of the clubs involved will further strengthen the signal to council that we have many people in support of the project.
“So encourage members of your family and supporters of the club to also attend, especially where they are residents or ratepayers and don’t forget to wear your club colours.”
The meeting is scheduled for 7pm, but with many people attending and registration required, it is suggested members arrive at 6pm.
The Seacrest Park plan proposes to build a multipurpose facility to support junior and senior cricket, junior and senior football and junior tee-ball, and a myriad of other community groups.
To date there is objection from some of the residents in the immediate vicinity of the oval.
The clubs involved, including SDCC, are garnering support from the community to display to council that a large percentage of the population support this project.
The new rooms are critical to the SDCC senior club, which has had no clubrooms or home for 10 years.
The SDCC juniors, which have been without facilities for 25 years.
In addition to attending the meeting, NSCCA members can also send a supporters email and complete an on line survey:
