Cricket West Cup Champions 2008-09
Mon, 23 Feb 2009
THE NSCCA has won the 2008-09 Cricket West Cup senior's title in convincing style, with a seven wicket win over WA Suburban Turf.
The win in Sunday's final was set up by a four wicket haul from Greenwood leg-spinner Richard Burlinson.
Burlinson claimed 4-20 to cap off an impressive season at inter-association level, with the ball.
WASTCA was bundled out for 143 after batting first.
In reply, the seniors were never really threatened with an impressive innings of 73 not out from right-handed Wanneroo opener Colin Rose sealing the victory.
The Association has won only one other senior's title, in the 1991-92 season.
NSCCA president Tim Park was elated by the win, that will mark the historic final year of competing under the Association's former name - the Wanneroo Cricket Association.

"We did it," he said.
"We beat Suburban Turf by seven wickets and dominated the game from start to finish.
"I would like to thank all the people from our Association that came to the game to support our team.
"They were many so on behalf of the team and I thank-you very much.
"Congratulations to (Captain) John Braid and his team.
"They have been fantastic all season, and have represented (the Association) superbly in all areas of the game, and are now rightfully Cricket West champions.
"We will celebrate this win well, and look forward to having a go at back to back next season.
"We also look forward to trying to get the colts and veterans into finals contention next season."
Mr Park also thanked all the clubs who provided players to play in the Cricket West Cup competition during 2008/09.
NSCCA Cricket West delegate Colin Bettles also congratulated the team on its win and going through the season undefeated.
He made particular praise of John Braid's leadership.
"Victory in this competition is always sweet, especially when it's over Suburban Turf," he said.
"John Braid has kept the squad together and formed a close bond between the players.
"They thoroughly deserve this win for showing 100pc commitment to inter-association cricket."
